Sports and Entertainment

The history of Jessore in the sports is splendid. Local players have imprinted their success at different times in national and international level. The Jela Krira Songstha was born in 1949 and this was the beginning of the Shamsul Huda Stadium. To establish and reform the stadium of Jela Krira Songstha, the former district administrator Ruhul Kuddus, Shah Ekramul Haque, Golam Mustafa, Bojlur Rahman, Tobibor Rahman, Alomgir Siddiki, Samsul Huda, Mosiur Rahman Sardar, Sudhir Babu, Sotis Datt, Cittoranjan Saha, Minister Torikul Islam and  Industrialist S M A Ahad Chowdhury play very important roles. In 1976 it was started to be modernised. The VIP gallery was built in 94-95s under the monetary fund of Jatiyo Kriya Porisod. Besides, In the Jessore Shamsul Huda Stadium there is a cricket gallery with international facilities  which include modern decorated dressing room, press box, commentary box, VIP conference room, office room, player gallery. This has been done with the support of distinguished businessman and social worker S M A Ahad who has supported to build the cricket gallery in the memory of his late wife Amena Khatun. Among the people who have imprinted their footmarks in the sports sectors of both national and international Late Shamsul Huda, Mohammad Shofiuzzaman, Kamal Uddin Hafez, Sayed Ali Anoyer, Wazed Gaji, Ataul Hauque Mollik, Ansarul Islam Mintu, Ramkrisno Ghosh, Sohidul Aslam Baccu, Abdul Mannan, Alomgir Siddiqui, Noyona Chowdhury Rikta, Farmida Rahman Ripa are notable. In addition, as a representative of national star football player, Abdul Hakim, Lutfor Rahman, Khondokar Rakibul Islam, Ajijul Hauque Jillu, Masuk Mohammad Sathi, Jamal, Tito; as cricketer, Hasanuzzaman Jhoru, Tushar Imran, Sayed Rasel Jamal Uddin Babu; as hockey player, Taz Hossain, Kausar Ali, Mohammad Asikuzzaman  are mentionable. There are some other players too who have done well in Volleyball, Handball, Kabaddi, Basketball,  Swimming, Water Polo, Badminton, Table Tennis, Judo Cerate, Boxing, Body Building and Chess.    by rony
