 Benapole land port plays a significant role in the economy of Bangladesh. It is situated in border village Benapole of Sharsha Upazilla in Jessore. International trade between India and Bangladesh largely depends on this port. Government gets an enormous amount of tax and levy through the export import trade of this port. Local people also finds job opportunity here as customs clearing agent. There is an international land port, a border security check post and a customs house situated in here. Bangladesh Land Port Authority administers this port area in Benapole. Benapole Rail Station works as the connecting route in Bangladesh-India rail communication. The other side of Benapole in India is known as Petrapole. It is a part of Bangaon Mohokuma of West Bengal. Geographically Benapole is a major strategical point for border trading between India and Bangladesh owing ito its proximity to Kolkata. In fact Kolkata is only 80 Km from Benapole. 90% of the total trade between India and Bangladesh are done through this port. Grand Trank Road, following Jessore-Benapole-Bonogaon-Kolkata route are important to thousands of visitors of these two countries.
